The first part is on asphalt up to Sillicano, before the town take a dirt road on the right between chestnut groves and metati (chestnut dryers) with some short downhill sections a little more technical. Arriving on the provincial road to reach Careggine, from here you have a panoramic view of the Apuan Alps, with a short branch you can reach the large yellow bench, it is worthwhile. technical descent, be careful, with a view of Lake Vagli until you reach the dam and then the Ferriera, from here to the handicraft area for marble processing then cross the Edron river and go up the asphalted road up to Poggio.

It starts on the regional road towards Camporgiano, crossing the center of salt towards Casatico, shortly after we find a junction on the left for Colle Aprico and from here we go towards Casatico, after passing the historic center we reach a large fountain on a crossroads, take the mushroom road on the left that will take us through chestnut groves to Roggio. After crossing the characteristic village of Roggio, continue along the dirt road that will take us to Monte Tontorone, from here you have a spectacular view of the Apuan Alps. After a short asphalted stretch you reach the he oasis of Campocatino, a basin under Mount Roccandagia characterized by several toll booths (homes of transhumant shepherds) and now also Oasi LIPU. From Campocatino we start again on asphalt and with a steep descent we reach first Vagli Sopra then Vagli Sotto, the old village abandoned many years ago after the construction of the dam, but now completely renovated, is worth a visit. and from here, after a nice smooth descent, you reach Poggio.

Go up the road towards Poggio, turn right at the first crossroads and go down until you cross the high railway bridge, at the end of the bridge turn right, cross Borgo della Sambuca, go up to Sillicagnana then to San Romano and continue up to Verrucole dominated by the spectacular Fortezza. In the square near the fountain, follow the Via del Volto Santo, a beautiful dirt road that will take us to San Donnino, from here, along the paved road, cross Piazza al Serchio and continue to Gragnana. Before the town, turn left onto the dirt road (Via Volto Santo) and reach first the mill of Gragnana and then San Michele, crossing a beautiful medieval bridge continue on the path to the ford on the river and from here with a steep but short climb you reach Piazza al Serchio. Crossing San Donnino continue in the direction of San Romano up to Naggio then along the dirt road you reach the Serchio river, go up to Camporgiano and from here to Poggio.

From Poggio you go up the Capriola hill, with a panoramic view of the valley, then with a short but steep descent you reach the railway bridge at the end of the bridge, turn right to reach the Sambuca, go up to the Villetta and from here along the dirt road you arrives at Giappone, the highest point of the route, cross the village of Pianacci and arrive at Villa Collemandina (the church is worth seeing) and along the dirt road you reach Castiglione (a village that deserves a separate visit) and descend to Pian di Cerreto. Crossing a beautiful flat area you arrive at Lake Pontecosi, skirt the lake and go up along the Serchio river until you get back to the railway bridge that will take you back to Poggio.
